Jump in your Norway motorhome hire and hit the road
A campervan hire in Norway is a wonderful way of seeing Scandinavia. Bordering Sweden and sitting on the west coast, Norway is a unique collection of natural wonders, Viking history and friendly people – and with one of the highest standards of living in the world, that’s no surprise! You can pick up your motorhome hire from either Oslo or Grimstad thanks to GoSee, so there’s nothing stopping you taking in the delights of this remarkable northern European country .
Skiing, safaris and cruising – enjoy the freedom of a camper
Norway is of course known for skiing and winter sports. The city of Lillehammer hosted the 1994 winter Olympics. So a ski or snowboarding holiday in your motorhome rental is an easy choice. The season goes for around six months, with the major concentration of mountains in the south of the country. However, the more ambitious traveller may wish to head north up towards Lofoten, Narvik and Tromso.
But there’s plenty more to Norway than snow-sports. It’s a nation built for other outdoor adventures, such as hiking, fishing, cycling, sailing and canoeing – definitely a destination for the active traveller. These all sit in the shadows of stunning mountain peaks, northern lights and fjords galore. Galdhopiggen is the highest mountain and well worth a trip.
The ultimate road trip – Atlantic Road
Considered one of the most spectacular camper rental journeys, the Atlantic Road runs for 8km between Kristiansund and Molde and is a truly remarkable route. Edging out into the sea, this National Tourist Route juxtaposes low bridges with beautiful stretches of tarmac. One to tick off your campervan hire bucket list.
Oslo a city on the rise
From Frogner Park to the Viking Ship Museum and Nobel Peace Centre, Oslo is the most popular tourist destination in Norway, with a population of around 600,000. There are numerous special events throughout the year, with a number of music festivals and theatre productions. Oslo is also ideal for a motorhome hire, with numerous campsites in operation all year round.
Handy tips for driving in Norway
- Speeding and aggressive driving is very much frowned upon in Norway. Be courteous and adhere to the speed limit – on highways it’s 90km/h unless instructed otherwise.
- You drive on the right and dipped headlights must be kept on at all times.
- Toll roads operate in some parts of Norway – Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim.
The joys of darkness
From mid-November until late January the sun doesn’t rise at all in Norway, with the spectacular light show – The Northern Lights – attracting thousands of tourists. Best seen in late autumn and early spring, the aurora borealis is a mystical, ethereal showcase. Recommended spots are above the Arctic Circle, in places such as the Lofoten Islands and Tromso.
