Driving tips for your St. John’s rental car
Fair warning, some of the roads on the island aren’t in perfect condition. Keep your eyes peeled on the road and follow these tips to drive safely in your car hire:
- Drive on the left-hand side of the road and always wear your seatbelt.
- Keep a road map in the car and make sure to have access to a GPS; the island roads aren’t well marked.
- Watch out for goats and other livestock near the roads.
- Stick to driving during daylight.
- Always yield to pedestrians at crosswalks.
For more tips and rules of the road, check out the Antigua and Barbuda rental car page.
Parking options in downtown St. John’s and at the Airport
Find paid parking areas in downtown St. John’s as well as on-street parking for cheap rates. Don’t park where yellow lines border the road edge and avoid parking near bus stops, pedestrian crossings and school entrances, to avoid fines.
If you need to park at VC Bird International Airport, park in the lot west of the terminal building where you will pay $3 EC per hour.
