Why are car rentals high?
Hertz New Zealand car rental rates vary according to supply and demand. When demand exceeds supply due to world events and supply chain issues, rates may increase.
Are one-way rentals available?
Availability of one-way rentals from Hertz is based on the location's restrictions and the vehicle type being taken one way. You may also check with this company if travelling inter island is permitted. This may incur an additional charge.
How old do I have to be to rent a vehicle?
Age requirements vary according to vehicle types as listed below. In all cases, renters must have held their full licence for at least 12 months.
- The minimum rental age is 18 years* for the B2, D, G, F2, F and I.
- The minimum rental age is 21 years for the H, J, J2, K, U4, V and V1.
- The minimum rental age is 25 years for the M, M5, V5, and X.
Is there a minimum rental period?
The car hire rates are based on 24/hr intervals, so the minimum rental period is one day. Book a vehicle from one of the top New Zealand car rental partners - Hertz.
Can I extend my rental?
Hertz is committed to give you the best so you can just call the customer support line to request a rental extension. This must be done before your booking expires.
Can anyone aside from myself drive the Hertz car rental?
Anyone can become an additional driver provided they meet the age requirements of the rental and can present a current full driver’s licence. There is an extra charge of $5.50 for additional drivers in New Zealand.
What driving license do I need?
You must present a valid driver’s licence appropriate for the vehicle you intend to drive. If your driver’s licence is in any language other than English, it must be accompanied by an English translation or an International Drivers Permit. This must also be produced before renting a vehicle. The above also applies to all named additional drivers.
