The Budget NZ advantage
With so many pick up locations, digital check in and a wide range of vehicles to choose from, Budget NZ aims to get you on the road with minimal fuss. This suppier have also implemented their ‘Worry-Free Promise’, which means that there will be a number of safety measures in place when picking up your vehicle, including protective screens, social distancing, paperless rental agreements and more.
Every vehicle you could need
Budget New Zealand offers a wide range of affordable vehicles in the country to suit every type of traveller. There are 15 vehicle types to choose from, as well as an additional commercial selection offering vans and Utes.
Compact
Choose from Compact, Economy and Intermediate sized vehicles and top brands such as Suzuki, Toyota and Hyundai. All vehicles have Bluetooth capability and air conditioning.
Full Size and Luxury
Choose from a Toyota Camry or similar. Full-size vehicles have plenty of room for luggage and are equipped with a reversing camera.
Hybrid
Available Hybrid models are Toyota Camry or similar.
SUV and 4WD
Choose from a variety of SUV options, including Compact, Intermediate, Standard, Full Size and Premium. Premium SUVs like the Toyota Prado are 4WD.
Premium Van or Ute
Big groups can opt for the Hyundai iMax or a similar 8-seater. Seating options are flexible. The Premium Ute Ford Ranger can seat five.

There are Budget New Zealand car rental pick up locations all across the country, from Kerikeri near the top of the North Island all the way to Invercargill at the bottom of the South Island. For added convenience, one-way bookings are available, subject to applicable fees. For best results, book your Budget NZ car rental in advance at the most popular pick up locations of Auckland Airport, Christchurch Airport, Queenstown Airport and Wellington Airport - especially for travel during holidays and popular events.

Can I pre-pay my booking?
With GoSee, you won’t need to pay for your vehicle until you reach the rental counter. If you have selected a RentalCover.com policy, then this will need to be paid at the time of booking.
How do I pay for my rental?
You can pay your Budget rent a car at the counter with your Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Budget Charge Card. If you’re paying with a debit card, it must have a Visa or Mastercard logo. At the start of your rental, a physical credit and or a debit card must be presented that shows your name, signature and card number. The cardholder must be the renter and present.
Is there a cancellation fee?
No cancellation fee will apply to a Budget car rental reservation that has not been pre-paid.
If you have pre-paid your booking, a cancellation fee applies as follows:
- Cancellation at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled pick-up time incurs a $86.25 (including GST). Within 24 hours of the scheduled pick-up time, the fee is $172.50 (inc. GST).
- If you fail to cancel your reservation and do not collect the vehicle on the pick up date, the entire pre-paid amount will be forfeited.
- If the value of your reservation is less than the cancellation fee, you will not be charged any further amount and will not be entitled to any refund.
Will I be charged per kilometre?
Generally, Budget New Zealand rentals include unlimited kilometres - unless otherwise indicated at the time of booking. If you are booking a particular vehicle or rate which has limited kilometres, you will be advised of the daily kilometre allowance and the cost of additional kilometres. Road User Charges apply to Budget Truck vehicles.
Do you offer vehicle delivery?
Select Budget NZ locations allow delivery or collection of rental vehicles. Please confirm this with your chosen pick-up and/or drop off location prior to booking.
Can I return outside operating hours?
Select Budget car rental locations allow returns outside of business hours. Please confirm this with your chosen pick-up and/or drop off location prior to booking.
Can I extend my rental?
You can likely extend your Budget car rental online or contact the pickup location, but you must notify us as soon as possible. You'll find the phone number on your Rental Agreement, or you can search for your pickup location.
Are one-way rentals available?
Yes, one-way car rentals are available with New Zealand Budget rent a car. You can also take your vehicle inter-island across Cook Strait (this must be booked by you in advance). Please note, one-way bookings may incur additional fees.
