Camping tips for your Spanish adventure

Make the most of your motor home rental and your trip to Madrid with these tips and tricks:

  • Check if your campsite has a curfew so that you aren’t locked out or can’t set up after hours. Not much you can do after the clock stroke the exact time.

  • Make sure you know when public transport ends for the night.

  • Keep a close eye on your pockets, and keep valuables safe—unlike Alicante, Madrid is a bustling city.

  • Brush up on your Spanish basics, or make sure you can translate with your phone online if you can—some restaurants only offer menus in Spanish. The Spanish name of the ciudad (city) or a listed attraction Patrimonio de la Humanidad (World Heritage Site) can help you get far.

  • Get used to napping in the afternoon, or adventuring through later hours, because thanks to the “siesta”, meal times are generally: breakfast at 9am, lunch at 2pm and dinner at 9pm.

  • Many shops stay open until much later than in other countries because of their midday napping hours.
