What are your pet policies?
Avis does not have a strict pet policy, but please be sure to return your rental car in a clean condition and free of pet hair, etc. to avoid cleaning fees.
Do you offer one-way rentals?
Avis offers convenient one-way rentals at attractive rates. Pick up a car at one location and return it to another. Car type and availability vary by participating locations, and a drop-off charge may apply.
What is your cross-border rental policy?
It's always best to inquire about any restrictions or fees that may apply if dropping the car at a different location. Inquire either at the location or simply contact us. Driving U.S.-owned cars into Mexico is always prohibited.
What are the age requirements for renting?
Avis rents vehicles to individuals who are 25 or older. A surcharge applies to qualified renters between the ages of 18 and 24.
What driver's license do I need?
The driver's license must be valid at the time of rental, and remain valid throughout the rental period. Driver's licenses accepted in the U.S. are:
- Any license issued by any U.S. state, territory or possession.
- A license issued by a Canadian province.
- A license issued by a country that participated in the 1949 Geneva Convention on Road Traffic or the 1943 Convention on the Regulation of Inter-American Automobile Traffic.
- A license issued by a country that has a reciprocal agreement with the U.S.
Please bring a hard copy of your driver's license at the time of rental. If you intend to rent outside your home country, you may also be required to present an International Driver's Permit. International Driver's Permits are valid only if presented with the original local license. In addition, at the time of rental, the renter, authorised driver, or additional driver may be subject to an electronic DMV check or may be required to sign a declaration attesting that they have a valid license that is not currently suspended, revoked, expired, cancelled or surrendered. Avis may require that you present a valid passport, as a secondary form of identification at the time of your check-out.

Avis accepts most major credit cards, charge cards, and Visa and Mastercard debit cards as a form of payment at most U.S. locations.
