The Salalah International Airport underwent a huge renovation in 2015, and can now host up to 6 million passengers a year in its beautifully designed terminal building. Fly in from Muscat in the north of Oman, or overseas from Doha, Islamabad and many other international cities. Take your pick of dining options, retail shops and tourist information points. Driving to and from the Salalah Airport
The Salalah Airport is located 13km north of the city centre by car. Head out onto Atin Road and follow it south until you reach Route 47. Take a left, and continue into the city centre. The trip should only take around 16-minutes. If you made arrangements to pick up your rental car from the city, hail a taxi from the airport.
Tips for driving your rental car in Salalah
- Motorists in Oman drive on the right, overtaking on the left only.
- Speed limits are 40km/h in urban areas and up to 120km/h on the highways.
- If a car flashes their lights at you, it means that they are asking you to let them pass.
- In the monsoon months (mid-June to mid-August), Salalah roads can get slippery, drive to the conditions.
Where to park - at airport and in Salalah
The Salalah Airport upgrade means better parking facilities for passengers. There are 2 car parks, both located next to the terminal which allow for short and long-term parking. They begin at 500 Bzs per half hour, and reach 2 RO for a full day.
On-street parking is available in the city, however be aware that parking in some areas is prohibited. When in doubt, see what other cars have done and follow suit. Museums, shopping malls and attractions all have parking available.
