Campervan hire Queenstown locations
The majority of the Queenstown campervan hire locations are in the vicinity of the airport, which is located about ten minutes from the city centre in the township of Frankton. GoSee’s rental partners provide travellers with a free shuttle service upon arrival.
What you need to know about campervan hire Queenstown
You’ll likely be picking up your campervan hire from Queenstown Airport in Frankton, a picturesque suburb ten minutes from central Queenstown. With all the splendours of the Southern Alps and Southern Lakes within easy reach, you’ll be well placed to begin the road trip of a lifetime.
Whilst our selection of campervans is modern and exceptionally user-friendly, getting acquainted with the vehicle first is a must. Our rental partners will be happy to answer any questions you may have before you get behind the wheel of your Queenstown motorhome hire. New Zealand drives on the left side of the road, and the roads skew a bit narrow. Roundabouts are common, and parking spaces tend to be small. Queenstown CBD gets congested, so motorhome parking is designated to select areas.
You’re going to love Queenstown
Queenstown is the jewel in New Zealand’s tourism crown, and the locals are friendly and eager to show it off. Visitors will be captivated by the scenery at Queenstown’s prime tourist location on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. The options for food, drinks, and entertainment are endless here, both on and off the water.
Not far away is the Skyline Gondola which takes you to the top of Bob’s Peak, offering 360 degree views of Queenstown, the lake, and the surrounding mountains. Sit back and gaze out at the Remarkables, Coronet Peak, Walter and Cecil Peak with a regionally produced Pinot Noir in hand, or get your blood pumping with some luge, ziplining, and paragliding.
Hiking and biking trails abound, with all the equipment you need for adventuring available in town. Within the Otago region, you can spend a relaxing day horseback riding and wine touring, followed by high octane activities such as skydiving and bungee jumping.
Where to go in your Queenstown campervan hire
From Queenstown, the options for day trips are endless. Every route you choose will be uniquely scenic, whether you head northeast toward the old mining town of Arrowtown, or northwest along the lake toward the charming village of Glenorchy.
Longer campervan road trips give you the option of seeing more of New Zealand’s incredible landscape. Milford Sound in Fiordland is one of New Zealand’s most treasured locations and is only a few hours from Queenstown. Wanaka and Cardrona are must-see locations within an hour’s drive, with the option to continue on to the glaciers of the West Coast or north to the majestic Mount Cook/Aoraki and the glacial lakes.
A campervan hire from Christchurch, is also a great option to begin or end your motorhome road trip. The city is just a 6-hour drive north of Queenstown.
Motorhome travellers also have the option of heading south towards Bluff and the Catlins, or southeast toward Dunedin and the coast. The sealife and seafood in this part of New Zealand is unmatched—and less travelled. GoSee of yourself!
Campervan rental Queenstown tips for the savvy traveller
It is imperative to book your Queenstown campervan rental early, particularly during peak seasons. This popular location books out well in advance, so you’ll want the best chance of securing the ideal vehicle for your trip. Choose your motorhome wisely, with consideration of what you need to suit your party, chosen route, and amount of equipment.
This mountainous region can prove a challenge to navigate, so we recommend sticking to the main highways and roads. More adventurous itineraries may require a sportier model and/or tire chains. Only park your campervan rental at designated camping sites and avoid private land. The South Island has plentiful facilities to serve motorhome travellers, but it is recommended that you plan your route and fuel and supply stops in advance as there can be stretches of road without an opportunity to stop.
Leave yourself extra time in each destination—there are so many gorgeous places that you’ll want to linger!
